Marine Parade label night

Marine Parade, the record label set up by superstar breakbeat deejay Adam Freeland, presented a special event in room one at Fabric in London on the 16th of August. The event featured a rare live performance by Californian breaks crew Uberzone (see photos), plus deejay sets by Marine Parade act Evil 9 as well Mr. Freeland himself.

Well we got in just after 11 pm. Early, I know, but I was excited! The place was just filling up nicely and I walked into Room One only to be stunned by the awesome visuals that the Marine Parade crew had provided. Evil 9 were playing a nice early warm-up set with a few faves thrown in towards the end, like their new tune "Cake Hole" as well as Forme's "Kick a Hole".

And then Uberzone came on. I was a bit dubious about them at first - hadn't heard them live and didn't know what to expect. But what I witnessed for the next hour or so was truly up there with the best live sets I have seen. Like Basement Jaxx at the Glastonbury festival, or Daft Punk. One of the boys was playing the drums live during the whole set. Actually playing the breaks "live" the whole way through, that completely blew me away…

Davey Dave from Uberzone was on scratching duty and triggering all the samples and the effects and stuff. Seriously, you had to see them to believe them! Then towards the end they dropped an old old anthem…"2 kool 4 skool". Gotta say it again…live breakbeats on the drums. Killa!

I spoke to Davey Dave, he was rating the whole British breaks scene and said he couldn't wait to come back. They have a new tune coming out that they made together with Rennie Pilgrem, so watch out for that. Top bloke.

Well I sort of lost it after that. The next thing I knew, the crowd was going mad, and Mr. Adam Freeland himself came onto the decks. Lotsa peeps ain't feeling his deep stuff, but he ripped the roof off the room. Towards the end he played some of his new tunes off his album (so fresh sounding - watch out for "We Want Your Soul"!!) Next thing I knew it was five(ish) and time to go home :-(

All in all a belting night, and props to the Marine Parade crew. When's the next one?!
