An interview with Rennie Pilgrem

Rennie Pilgrem
Jan. 2000 mix

DJ Dust: Name?
Rennie: Rennie Pilgrem

DJ Dust: Age?
Rennie: Over 30

DJ Dust: Based in?
Rennie: Ladbroke Grove, London.

DJ Dust: What do you or have you recorded under?
Rennie: Rhythm Section, Nu Electro Sound of London, Rennie Pilgrem...

DJ Dust: What made you happy this month ?
Rennie: Pete Tong played a track I've got coming out on Mob called "Some Place Funky" and raved about the bassline. It's good that they're finally onto breakbeat.

DJ Dust: Best gig?
Rennie: Perception with Rhythm Section to 15000 people, that's probably the best one.

DJ Dust: Worst gig?
Rennie: Louisiana in America, flying through a storm to get there, and then a fight involving half the club and the gig was stopped that wasn't very nice. Apparently that's normal, just a regular Saturday night. That's what they do.

DJ Dust: 1997 saw a raise in media profile for the breaks scene with yourself and Adam Freeland getting regular press; it then died down over '98, but the end of '99 and 2000 has seen a raise in the profile. Why do you think that is?
Rennie: The media like any new thing so we sort of came up with the nu skool breaks tag, and now people are starting to get albums out so it`s started to be taken seriously.
