Hi
Danny, how's things?
Cool, just working as per usual.
We recently heard about the closure of
your label In-flight Entertainment, after some storming releases.
What's the story???
When I set up the company, there were certain people involved that
were on the same wavelength. As with everything I do, I like to
make sure that things are on my terms so I can put 100% in. Since
starting In-flight, a lot of the original people I was working with
had left the company. Obviously this meant that the company changed
and inevitably expectations and the like changed. It's not to say
I disliked the changes or anything but, like I said, I need
things on my terms to make them work properly, and I found myself
in a situation where things weren't, so the deal was terminated.
It's a shame but I always look to future, not the past, so things
are cool...
It is a shame... You've always been behind
labels so any plans for a new one???
Nah, not for now. I've realised that I can't give the attention
to everything I do if I spread myself too thinly. Its fine "fronting"
a company and still getting on with music and DJing etc.., but if
I'm making music, DJing, doing the radio thing as well as running
a label at the minute, I think it would be difficult. I'd rather
concentrate on my current projects, which are enough for now!
Speaking of your projects, what is the situation
with the Soul Electric album you've been working on??
I really wanted to make a diverse artist album with Soul Electric.
No disrespect to anyone doing dancefloor albums at all - my
current project is working out that way and, believe me, there have
been some wicked ones this past year, but I wanted to do something
that people would be able to listen to without having to sit through
long intros and outros made for DJs. It's not always possible to
just chop the beginning and end off as some records are not built
to work in that way. Also getting to work with seasoned vocalists
and musicians and going from making instrumentals in my room
to a full vocal band project is a great way to develop yourself
as a producer. I've done that now, and although there is a
possibility that it will be released and that would be wicked, I'm
not worried about it. Again, I'm looking to the future now so that's
my main interest.
